We Use Business as a Force for Good
As of February 2012, Greyston Bakery became the first company to register as a Benefit Corporation in New York State. As B Corp, we are held accountable to a triple bottom line of people, planet and profit. We’re part of a growing community that recognizes businesses can and should use their power to make the world a better place.
We’ve been awarded the prestigious titles of “Best for the World” and “Best for the Community” by B Lab, the umbrella organization for Benefit Corporations every year since becoming a B Corp.
What is a Benefit Corporation?
A Benefit Corporation is a new class of business; a legal entity that is required by law to create a general benefit for society as well as for its shareholders. Benefit Corporations must have a material positive impact on society, and must consider how their decisions affect their employees, their community and the environment.
We are committed to empowering our employees. We provide a range of resources- like child care- to make sure our employees have the best chance of success. And, provide 8 hours of paid volunteer time per year so we can give back to the community. What’s more? We believe we should reduce the cost of production on our environment. Our brownies are baked with the power of the sun thanks to a generous solar panel donation from Green Mountain Energy!
